UNBOUND Exhibition, Meet Fiber Artist Cindy Flickinger
Artist's Bio: Cindy Flickinger grew up in beautiful Southwest Virginia in the town of Marion. She attended James Madison University where she received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with a concentration in Interior Design. Art has always been a love of Cindy's, telling her parents in 2nd grade that she was going to be an artist when she grew up. As a teenager, she collected floor plans from magazines, drew up dream houses and even “drew” floor plans in the leaves/grass when her dad told her to go out and rake the yard. Although Cindy loved all forms of art, after her first drafting class at JMU, she knew that design drafting was her preferred art form. She finally became a technical artist, following her dream. Unfortunately, drafting by hand with a T-square and a triangle moved to computer aided drafting and her drafting skills became somewhat obsolete. After working for three different architects around VA, Cindy eventually started teaching art. “Teaching was never my passion”, says Cindy, but art has always been. Her background in studio art brought a “little bit” of knowledge about a lot of different art techniques, materials and history. Which was perfect for the middle school students she taught for 23 years. Since retirement in May of 2024, she has dabbled in a variety of art media often incorporating her love of sewing. Cindy lives in Warsaw in her dream house (no, she did not design it) with her husband, a retired State Park manager and her dog. She has two grown children and two very young grandchildren that keep her travelling to NC and CA to babysit.
