Participation Guidelines for Consigning Artists

 

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW  ABOUT BEING A CONSIGNING ARTIST WITH US!

 

The Hanging Spot Gallery at 2 Rivers Arts

1. Introduction


The Hanging Spot is our second gallery space at 2 Rivers Arts, created to showcase a diverse range of artists in a professional, thoughtfully curated setting.

 

2. Gallery Artist (Consigning Artist) Benefits

Each Gallery Artist receives:

  • A dedicated artist page on the 2 Rivers Arts website, including:

    • Headshot

    • Bio or artist statement

    • Three to five images of work currently on display

  • Artists are encouraged to update images bimonthly to reflect work shown during each rotation.

 

Online Sales & Promotion

  • Up to seven (7) pieces of artwork may be listed for sale through the 2 Rivers Arts online gallery and linked to the artist’s page.

  • For each listed piece, artists must provide:

    • 3–5 photographs taken from different angles

    • File format: JPG or PNG

    • Title of work

    • Medium

    • Dimensions

  • Artists may also submit a short video describing the piece (strongly encouraged, as videos increase visibility and sales).

    • Videos may be created by the artist or produced in collaboration with the Marketing, Advertising, Community Programs & Events Manager (Janice Jones).

  • All images, videos, and artwork details must be submitted at least one (1) week prior to each bimonthly opening.

    • Inclusion of late submissions cannot be guaranteed.

 

Additional Benefits

  • Gallery Artists receive a 25% discount on select 2 Rivers Arts shows and event fees.

  • As 2 Rivers Arts is a member of the Northern Neck Artisan Trail (NNAT), Gallery Artists are automatically included in NNAT-related events hosted by 2 Rivers Arts (excluding private studio memberships).

  • Artists are encouraged to share information about other exhibitions or events they are participating in; these may be promoted through 2 Rivers Arts’ social media, blogs, or News & Updates page.

  • During their tenure, Gallery Artists receive a 10% discount on purchases made at 2 Rivers Arts.

 

3. Wall Space & Rotation

  • Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis.

  • All applications are reviewed by the 2 Rivers Arts partners.

  • Approved artists are placed when space becomes available.

  • Artists approved but not immediately placed will be added to a priority list for future openings and early invitations to special shows and events.

 

The gallery includes:

  • Nine (9) individual 6 x 10–foot consignment artist walls

  • Two (2) individual 8 x 10 foot consignment artist walls

  • One (1) 12 x 10–foot Featured Artist Wall, designed to highlight work in a focused and elevated way

 

We invite artists to join the Hanging Spot Gallery as Gallery Artists (Consigning Artists) and become part of this exciting new chapter at 2 Rivers Arts.

 

Wall Assignments

  • Each Gallery Artist is assigned a 6 x 10–foot wall space.

  • Wall placement is:

    • Assigned first come, first served upon execution of the agreement

    • Rotated bimonthly, with placement determined by a blind drawing

    • Artists will rotate their work on the last Monday of every other month to coordination with opening shows. 

  • All artwork must remain within the assigned wall boundaries unless approved by the
    Gallery Operations & Scheduling Manager (Anne McCahill).

 

4. Featured Artist Wall Opportunities

In addition to individual wall space, artists will be selected for the Featured Artist Wall, which offers expanded visibility and recognition.

 

Featured Artist Benefits

  • A 12 x 10–foot Featured Artist Wall

  • Enhanced promotion during the two-month feature period, including:

    • Prominent website placement dedicated to Featured Artists

    • Up to ten (10)  works of art can/will be added to 2 Rivers Arts “Online Sales & Promotion”

      • The same format elaborated previously in Online Sales & Promotion applys.

  • Social media spotlights

  • News & Updates website announcements

  • Newsletter features

  • Video and/or YouTube interviews

 

Rotation Guidelines

  • 2026 Only: Featured Artist Wall placement will be assigned on a first come, first served basis.

  • Subsequent years: Placement will rotate bimonthly via a blind drawing.

  • Featured Artists must rotate their work on the first day of each month.  If the 1st of the month falls on a Saturday or Sunday, the following Monday is set aside for this purpose.

  • Themed exhibits may be offered once or twice per year:

    • Open to all Gallery Artists ONLY

      • Starting in 2026

    • Themes announced at the beginning of each calendar year

 

5. Rental Rates & Agreement Options

Available agreement lengths:

  • 3-month agreement

  • 6-month agreement

  • 9-month agreement

  • 12-month agreement

  • Other arrangements may be negotiated with the Artist Relations & Consignment Manager

 

6. Payment Terms

  • Rent is due on the first day of each month.

  • Accepted payment methods:

    • Credit card (charge)

    • Check payable to J Jones Art Consulting LLC

  • Agreements beginning mid-month will have the first and last month prorated accordingly.

 

7. Artwork Requirements & Inventory

  • All artwork must be gallery-ready.

  • 2 Rivers Arts reserves the right to refuse or remove work that does not meet gallery standards.

  • Artists must submit:

    • A digital inventory of exhibited work (format provided upon acceptance)

    • A paper inventory is encouraged

  • Artists agree to:

    • Replace sold work as soon as possible after notification

    • Provide complete, accurate labels for all displayed artwork

      • Name of Work

      • Medium

      • Artist

      • Price

 

9. Hanging Guidelines (Quick Reference)

  • Maintain a clean 2–4 inch gap between pieces

  • Artwork must remain within assigned wall boundaries

  • Any exceptions require approval from the Artist Relations & Consignment Manager

 

10. Removal & Termination

  • Artwork may not be removed prior to the end of the consignment period without written approval from the Artist Relations & Consignment Manager.

  • Either party may terminate this Agreement with thirty (30) days written notice.

  • Upon termination, the Artist agrees to retrieve all artwork within an agreed-upon timeframe.

    • When an Artist removes their work, they must leave a signed inventory of the art work that is being removed from the Gallery.

  • Artwork remaining more than six (6) months after termination of the Agreement becomes the property of 2 Rivers Arts unless other arrangements are made in writing.

 

12.  Independent Contractor Status

The Artist is an independent contractor and not an employee of 2 Rivers Arts. At year-end, 2 Rivers Arts will issue a Form 1099 to each Artist for annual sales, as required by law.

 

13.  Insurance & Risk of Loss

  • Artists are encouraged to maintain their own insurance coverage.

  • 2 Rivers Arts will exercise reasonable care in handling artwork but is not responsible for loss or damage due to fire, theft, vandalism, or natural disaster unless otherwise agreed in writing.
